NYC is calling you for service. After living here for a long while, it’s time that the city can benefit from us. Sure they’re charging 25 cents more now on the subway, but it’s also because we have more people living here now than ever before.
I’ve never found myself defending the MTA before today, but ...

You know I’m pretty sure I’ll never meet Obama, but if I did I’d probably say something really stupid and/or awkward. Or something really clever like “Yo.”
Really thinking about it is all academic (barely), but what would we say if we met a president is a question I think most people have asked themselves.
As ...

As of today Minnesota residents can fish free in most state parks!
The exemption allows state park visitors to take fish without a license when shore fishing or wading on state-owned land within a state park. All limits and special regulations in effect for the body of water still apply.
Fishing without a ...

According to the Register, a nudist group lost a court battle to keep Trail 6 of San Onofre Beach a legal haven for the clothing-less.
Problem is that there was no true set policy, the one being relied upon to fight the legal ban on nudity at public beaches being a letter written by a deputy-director ...

I guess it isn’t just another music Friday, the King of Pop has passed away and in tribute I will be postponing my Rock and Roll post until next week.
Michael Jackson was the type of star that I believe everyone in the world had an opinion on and most have a memory.
Our own local Max ...

If you’re curious about what today at the Colorado Capitol Building looked like, see this link for photos. Around 250 Iranian Americans showed up to show support for the people of Iran, not the government.
Here’s my ten minute long youtube video:

Yesterday’s revelation of the bizarre “don’t call me Liz” e-mail thread between a McDermott aide and an overly apologetic scheduler from JP Morgan Chase has made it from Politico’s “shenanigans” blog [#] across the internet and back. Today it crossed over into even stranger territory when Keith Olbermann ended Countdown [msnbc] with a staged reading ...

I know that with all the budget cuts and perceived problems with our Minnesota school system people are getting frustrated and more and more I’m hearing vitriol aimed at our teachers.
It’s my understanding that Minnesota has some of the best teachers in the country and in my own personal experience that held to be true. We rank #1 in ...

Many kinds of histories would have been made this Saturday on June 13, 2009. But the most significant one of them all, that I can think of, was that the budget of Pakistan was delivered for the first time by a woman in the history of Pakistan. The lady who delivered the budget speech was ...

The Seattle City Council is reviewing a draft plan to make Seattle a more pedestrian-friendly town. Appropriately enough, the measure is called the Pedestrian Master Plan. Very grand sounding, ain’t it?
I’ve lived in Seattle long enough to remember when Westlake Plaza was closed to traffic, and I’m still outraged that the city opened it. ...

My friend Carolyn is a dedicated journalist/blogger.When she turns vegan and does a post on all the non-nasty tasting vegan cheeses, she means business. So what does she do? Goes to Whole Foods to take a bunch of photos.

Look forward to fewer arbitrary ticketing fees from the Crocodile this summer. After they flush out the shows already on their lineup being sold through Ticketmaster, all advance tickets purchased online will come with a flat $2 fee plus standard credit card charges. How, you might wonder, has this miracle of sensible pricing been brought ...

After years of expressing support for a high-speed rail project originating from Anaheim to Las Vegas, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid now favors a line that begins in Victorville.

Yes folks, it’s true. According to this OC Register article, the fair committee approved (and apparently already filmed) a 3-D movie about “Al’s brain” to be shown at this year’s OC Fair. The 10 minute film will be shown in a temporary tent that will be set up for this year, however there ...

I went yesterday to ConspiracyCon, which is exactly what you’d guess it is: a convention of conspiracy theorists. UFO chasers, 9-11 deniers, tax protesters and this year’s big favorite, explainers of the current economic crisis.
Here are some of the things I learned:
Obama and his administration are pawns of the international banking conspiracy, and it’s ...

As mentioned in a previous post, a coalition is forming to protest the proposed “revitalization” of the lower Main, and the destruction of Café Cleopatra and much of the red-light district.
